Lewis Travis emphasised that he has a contract with parent club Blackburn Rovers through 2026, but he feels that his future at Ipswich Town won’t depend on the team’s promotion to the Premier League.

After going on loan from Ewood Park in January, the midfield player will play out the remainder of the season in Suffolk. So far, he has made six appearances for the Blues, starting four of them.

While it’s true that he hasn’t exactly been a regular—Sam Morsy and Massimo Luongo continue to be Kieran McKenna’s preferred midfield duo—he is determined to keep getting used to Town’s unconventional style of play.

As is to be expected, the 26-year-old is unsure of his long-term plans, and after the season, he will speak with new Blackburn manager John Eustace. Even so, a price would need to be worked out between the two teams, but Travis was eager to emphasise how much he has enjoyed his stay so far at Ipswich.

He declared, “It doesn’t really matter what happens this season.” “Obviously, Blackburn, a great club, is still under contract with me, but we’ll have to wait and see what the future brings.

“I adore Portman Road and I adore this place.”
In light of this, it appears that he made the right choice in moving for the first time in his career to the south, joining a team that was engaged in a competitive campaign for automatic promotion.

Travis is certain that the switch was the right one, even though it gave him a more difficult experience.

He acknowledged, “There were teams I felt I could have joined that would have been an easier option, where I would have stepped in and played every game.” “I knew it would be harder to get in and get games at Ipswich, but the payoff might be enormous.

“Choosing the simple route in life is pointless. I’m delighted I took the chance because I’m still young and this is a great opportunity, albeit a little risky.

After defeating Plymouth Argyle over the weekend, Ipswich has moved ahead of Leeds United and Southampton in the previously mentioned race for a top-two finish. For Town supporters, the table is worth perusing, as they are currently only three points behind Leicester City.

Travis is aware of how quickly things can change, though, as the four teams have discovered at different times this season. He is trying to concentrate on the next games rather than getting too sucked into it.

“You see, people probably thought they’d be miles ahead and it doesn’t work out with Leeds and Leicester,” he said.

There will always be a great deal of ups and downs. As a group of guys, we just need to stay focused and not get caught up in that; instead, we should just enjoy each game as it comes.

“It’s not like the teams around us are going to disappear; they have excellent players. It seems like it might go all the way to the wire.

“In this league, anybody can defeat anybody.” In the end, when you play teams that are closer to the bottom of the table, they are ultimately fighting to stay in the league, while we are fighting to get out of it. On any given day, anything can occur. All we need to do is remain extremely focused.

“If we can win 11 out of 11, that would be ideal, but I think there will be some ups and downs as well.”

For the next nine weeks, Travis wants to play as much as he can, but only if he is eligible. The recent graduate of Liverpool’s academy has nine bookings this season; if he receives a yellow card against Bristol City tonight or during Saturday’s match at Cardiff City, he will miss two games.

This implies that he is treading carefully, much like his teammate Morsy, who wants to avoid serving a three-match suspension prior to the season’s conclusion. Still, Travis isn’t going to let the prospect deter him from going after his usual targets, even though he’ll do his best to steer clear of another warning sign.

He remarked, “My tackling is a big part of my game.” “I can’t enter the games believing that I’m going to be tackled and given a yellow card. All I have to do is play the game as I am.

“I’ll do everything in my power to avoid it, but if it does happen, it happens.”
