FLW’s Blackburn Rovers fan pundit Toby Wilding believes that Lewis Baker would be a good addition to John Eustace’s side. According to Alan Nixon, the midfielder is attracting interest from the Lancashire outfit this summer. Baker made just 20 appearances for the Potters in the Championship last season, with injury preventing him from featuring at all until December (all stats from Fbref). However, any deal involving Baker going to Ewood Park will reportedly need Blackburn to earn money through player sales. This means any move may have to wait until a deal is agreed regarding Sammie Szmodics, who is being targeted by Ipswich Town.
Toby Wilding, a Blackburn supporter for FLW, thinks that Baker would improve John Eustace’s team’s midfield options.
He has stated that Baker might raise the calibre of midfielders the manager has at his disposal, even though other parts of the club would require more reinforcement in terms of sheer numbers.
“I hope they move forward with this,” Wilding expressed to Football League World.
“With the current composition of the team, adding more players to the midfield does not necessarily need to be the top priority.
There’s a chance that they have more options there than in almost any other position, but there’s also a chance that those possibilities may be better.
“I believe that he adds experience to the table that may be lacking right now.
Additionally, given Baker’s track record of scoring goals from midfield, I believe his arrival would strengthen the midfield.
Thus, I believe that I would really like to see this agreement completed.
“There is nothing stopping Rovers from adding players to strengthen in other areas where they currently lack depth, such as midfield, for the right price.”
This summer, Blackburn has added two new players to their roster: Aodhan Doherty and Jack Barrett.
Eustace, who led the squad to a 19th-place finish in the previous season, will be looking to assemble a team this season that can contend farther up the Championship table.
Rovers might have to hold off on making any more possible deals until after a settlement with Szmodics.
Before the market closes for the rest of the year, they have until August 30 to complete their window plans.
The expectations of Potters fans haven’t quite been met during Baker’s tenure at Stoke.
He has, meanwhile, continued to perform admirably at a Championship level while he has been there, and Eustace obviously admires him for that.
Once the Szmodics sale is completed, Rovers should aim to support the manager in the market, and this would be one way to accomplish it.
Given that he is now 29 years old, there will be some worries over the major injury problems he has been having, but if they can strike a deal at a fair price, it might help the squad for the upcoming season.
