Semir Telalovic, a striker for Blackburn Rovers, is expected to sign with Ulm of Bundesliga 2, according to Alan Nixon on Patreon.
After a lacklustre tenure at Ewood Park, Nixon’s article disclosed that the forward is in talks with the German second division team. The 24-year-old signed a three-year contract to join Rovers from Bundesliga team Borussia Monchengladbach last summer, but in his 17 appearances and two starts, he was unable to contribute a single goal.
Rovers will have had higher hopes for the forward who hasn’t been able to make an impact in the Championship when they recruited Telalovic from Monchengladbach.
The former player for Monchenladbach played in three Bundesliga games in 2022–2023; that season, he scored an amazing 15 goals in 29 games for Gladbach’s second team in the Regionalliga, the fourth division of German football.
The forward, however, is now looking to return home in the hopes of improved luck in front of goal after finding it difficult to adjust to the demands of English football’s second tier.
Since his one-minute cameo on April 13 at Elland Road in a 1-0 victory over Leeds United—a goal that came late from Sammie Szmodics—Telaalovic has not played for Rovers.
The 24-year-old only played 297 minutes during the previous campaign, which is a big part of the reason he is looking to leave Ewood Park just a year after relocating to Lancashire.
Rovers only managed to avoid relegation to League One by three points during their previous season, despite only scoring 60 goals in 46 league games.
While Rovers’ other attackers failed, Szmodics emerged as the team’s main attacking threat, winning the Championship golden boot after scoring 27 goals in 44 games.
However, despite these conditions, Telalovic failed to make an impression on current manager John Eustace or former boss Jon Dahl Tomasson, and he is now eager to move on to fresh pastures.
Given his obvious lack of creativity at the Championship level, a Telalovic departure would not be too devastating for the Lancashire team; but, Eustace and company should still be eager to bring in new offensive talent this summer.
According to TEAMtalk, Turkish Super Lig powerhouse Galatasaray is also considering signing Rovers talisman Szmodics, while Premier League rivals Everton, Brentford, and Leicester City are keeping an eye on him.
The team should be eager to recruit a new striker even if the Ireland international stays at Ewood Park, as they don’t want to depend too heavily on the offensive midfielder for a second straight year.
Additionally, according to The Express, Ipswich Town, the Premier League’s newcomers, are interested in acquiring Rovers striker Sam Gallagher. This is because Kieran McKenna wants to assemble a team that can survive in the Premier League after achieving back-to-back promotions.
Gallagher only finished the previous season with three goals and three assists in 24 Championship games; however, it could be argued that his eight league goals from the previous season and his nine goals from the 2022–2023 season are more indicative of his abilities, and Rovers will not want to let him go.
