Following Sonny Carey’s opener, the defender headed home a Karamoko Dembele free kick shortly before halftime. Hayden Coulson extended the lead after the break, when John McAtee and Adam Phillips scored, setting up a tight closing few minutes.
Husband not only scored goals, but he also contributed defensively to keep the Seasiders’ play-off chances alive as the season came to a close. With his contract expiring in the summer, the win over the Tykes may have been the 30-year-old’s last game at Bloomfield Road. He came as a loanee in 2019, but has since made 175 appearances for the Fylde Coast club.
When asked about the future of the left-sided centre back, Blackpool manager Neil Critchley replied: “Hubby is one of my lieutenants. I inherited him when I moved here four years ago. Possibly he and Matty Virtue are the only two survivors from that time, and there’s a reason for that; I trust them both. They’re wonderful folks and proper leaders.
“Hubby has been outstanding- he knows my thoughts and what I want to happen, so let’s see.”
Along with Husband, Richard O’Donnell, Callum Connolly, Marvin Ekpiteta, Matty Virtue, and Shayne Lavery are all nearing the conclusion of their current contracts. Sonny Carey is also in that camp, but his contract includes an option to prolong his stay for another year.
