At the moment, the Seasiders have a tiny chance of securing a League One play-off berth, but they face stiff competition from a number of other teams in the table, all of which have games in hand.

Regardless of whether tier they play in next season, the Fylde Coast club has some good players who they should focus on and build around. They also have a handful of players on loan who should be key transfer targets when the summer window opens.

Unfortunately, star man Karamoko Dembele will most likely not return after his time at Bloomfield Road is over, with a number of large clubs interested in the Brest loanee, but some of the others could be viable options.

Here’s seven players Blackpool need to build around and the two loanees they need ensure return next season:

Who should Blackpool build their team around for next season?
The Seasiders have several players who should be at the heart of their strategy.

 Dan Grimshaw

Dan Grimshaw has been superb in goal for the Seasiders this season, making a lot of spectacular saves on his route to an 18-clean sheet record. He has clearly established himself to be a great player in League One.

 Olly Casey

Olly Casey has performed well for the squad this season, and his contract was extended until 2026 in November. He’s undoubtedly a player the Seasiders can build their defence around.

 Matthew Pennington

Another defensive option who should be firmly at the centre of Blackpool’s plans is Matthew Pennington. The ex-Everton youngster has been solid throughout the season on the right side of the back three.

 Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel

Jordan Lawrence–Gabriel has done well since his return from injury. He has established himself to be Blackpool’s finest option on the right side and has the potential to challenge in the Championship in the future.

 Albie Morgan

Albie Morgan enjoyed a strong run of form at the start of 2024 and demonstrated the potential he possesses. If he can replicate that on a consistent basis then he’s got what it takes to be at the heart of the Blackpool midfield.
