As 2025 approaches, Fiji Rugby is set to embark on a transformative journey, focusing on youth development, strategic partnerships, and enhanced international presence.

 

Youth Development Initiatives

 

The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) has announced plans to introduce an Under-23 15s rugby tournament in 2025. This initiative aims to expand the Fiji Rugby Union’s talent pool by providing young athletes with more opportunities to showcase their skills in both sevens and fifteens formats. The FSC’s commitment to youth development is expected to create crucial pathways for the next generation of players.

 

Additionally, the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) is set to establish academies for players aged 14 to 18 across Fiji, with a focus on engaging schools and local talents, particularly from regions like Vanua Levu. This effort aims to create a clear pathway for young athletes, especially in light of the upcoming 2028 World Cup.

 

Strengthening Partnerships

 

In a significant boost for the sport, the Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board has renewed its partnership with Fiji Water for another four years. This multi-million-dollar deal ensures that Fiji Water remains the major sponsor of the men’s national 15s team, providing essential resources for athletes to compete at the highest levels. The collaboration underscores shared values of excellence, integrity, and community development, aiming to elevate Fiji Rugby to new heights on the international stage.

 

International Engagements

 

Fiji Rugby League is actively pursuing the opportunity to host a Test match in Fiji on October 10, 2025, coinciding with Fiji Day celebrations. Discussions are underway with potential international teams, aiming to boost the sport’s profile and provide local fans with high-caliber rugby experiences.

 

Super Rugby Pacific 2025 Season

 

The Fijian Drua are set to participate in the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, which kicks off on February 14. The Drua will host the Brumbies in Sydney on February 15, marking a significant opportunity to showcase Fijian talent on a prominent platform. The season features a 16-round regular schedule, with each of the 11 teams playing seven home and seven away matches, along with two byes. The revamped six-team playoff system is set to commence in June.
