During Ian Evatt’s four years in charge, the loan market has given Wanderers some true success stories, but the evidence this year hasn’t been very strong.

Only Paris Maghoma, one of the five players signed to short contracts, has truly established himself in the first team spotlight, with the other players relegated to supporting roles.


In order to begin our in-depth analysis of the Bolton team for this season, we have focused on the five players that were brought in on loan.

While there have been some genuine success stories for Wanderers in the loan market throughout Ian Evatt’s four years in charge, the evidence hasn’t been particularly compelling this year.

Out of the five players committed to short contracts, only Paris Maghoma has made a lasting impression as the starting lineup’s star player, with the other players relegated to supporting roles.

To start our detailed examination of Bolton’s roster for this season, we have concentrated on the five players that were brought in on loan.

Only Dion Charles (94) recorded more shots on goal than Maghoma (71) in the league, demonstrating his unwavering confidence in his ability to score. At 2.3 dribbles per game, he was the only Wanderers player to rank among the top 20 in the division.

Although the statistics indicate that Maghoma is less likely to engage opponents than either Josh Sheehan or George Thomason, Evatt had hoped that he would enhance his game when not in possession.

A string of minor ailments made for a frustrating debut for the player, who was brought in on loan from West Brom to provide Randell Williams another left wing-back option. It was unfortunate that, prior to January 10, he had only appeared in the starting lineup three times, all in cup games. His debut against Barrow was highlighted by a skillfully placed set piece goal.
