Bulls coach Eamon O’Carroll described the decision made by Hull FC to recall NRL recruit Jayden Okunbor from his loan with the Championship team “hugely disappointing.”
This is according to The Telegraph & Argus, who met with O’Carroll, the current manager of the Bradford Bulls and a former reserve coach for the Catalans, prior to the team’s matchup with the Dewsbury Rams today.
Prior to the 2024 season, Hull FC acquired a number of high-profile acquisitions from Australia. The former Canterbury Bulldogs winger/center Okunbor joined Franklin Pele, Herman Ese’ese, hooker Nu Brown, and prop Franklin Pele in a wave of heavy expenditure by the Black and Whites.
Only former Dolphins player Ese’ese has had a major influence out of those four recruits; the former Samoan and New Zealand international is among the team’s players of the season thus far.
While Franklin Pele was released and later signed with Bradford, Okunbor played only a few games before being banished by the current team led by interim coach Simon Grix. Nu Brown has returned to the NRL.
Since Grix took over as manager following Tony Smith’s dismissal, he has not appeared in a game for Hull FC; however, this may be about to change as O’Carroll has confirmed that he has been called up, according to The Telegraph & Argus.
