Bradford City have deemed the centre-back surplus to requirements as they prepare for the 2024/25 League Two season. The Yorkshire side missed out on the play-offs last term and will be aiming for promotion to League One next year.

Taylor, 33, still has more than a year left on his Valley Parade contract, which runs through the summer of 2025. But under Graham Alexander, the former manager of MK Dons and Salford City, he has fallen down the ladder recently.

According to the most recent information provided by the Telegraph & Argus, he has been informed that he has “no future” at Bradford City and can leave the team within the course of the next few months. He’s been placed on transfer so that other teams can make a move for him.

Cutting ties with Taylor would be a sensible decision by the Bantams as they gear up for the next campaign.

The veteran has fallen out of favour and there is no point having him on the books if he isn’t going to play very much

He was brought in by former manager Mark Hughes last year to add more competition and depth to their defensive department.

Since then, though, he has battled for playing time and has only made 17 appearances in competitive play, 12 of which have been in the league.

Given his expertise and 550+ games played in his career, Taylor might be a compelling option for other teams in need of a new defender.

After rising through the ranks at Tranmere Rovers, the former Wales youth international played for Aberdeen, Northampton Town, Walsall, and Kilmarnock.

What next for Bradford City?

A team of Bradford City’s magnitude shouldn’t be in the basement league, and they must work their way back up to the third division.

Alexander’s team had a respectable finish to the previous campaign and will need to maintain that form going into the upcoming one.

Taylor looks to be nearing the conclusion of his contract, which would give up money and room to bring in further reinforcements to bolster their depth and calibre of play.
