A BRADFORD council member has sent his condolences to the family of a man who was retrieved from the Saltaire river over the weekend and passed away in the hospital.
Just after 2:00 PM on Saturday, a 45-year-old man was taken from the River Aire by The Boathouse bar, which is next to Roberts Park.
Police, fire, and ambulance services were among the emergency personnel dispatched to the location.
After being taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, the guy passed away in the hospital.
The T&A was informed today that the death “is not being treated as suspicious” by the police, who have begun an inquiry into the occurrence.
The West Yorkshire Police released an official statement that stated: “The man’s death in the river at Saltaire is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.”
“It’s a very, very sad incident and I’d ask anyone who witnessed it to come forward and assist police in the inquiries,” stated Councillor Martin Love of Green, Shipley.
“My prayers and thoughts are with the affected family.
It’s simply really depressing.
Additionally, Cllr. Love expressed his concern for anybody who might have witnessed the incident.
“With the nice weather on Saturday, Roberts Park would have been very busy,” he remarked.
The man’s death in hospital was confirmed by West Yorkshire Police in an official statement early on Monday.
A police spokeswoman had stated earlier today: “It is tragic to report that a guy who was retrieved from the Saltaire river on Saturday afternoon passed away in the hospital.
“The relatives of the 45-year-old has been notified.
“While the inquiry is ongoing, his death is being handled as unexplained at this time.
“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
“We were called by the fire service at 2.20pm to reports of a male in the water,” a Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said on Saturday.
“We sent two ambulances, team leader and rapid response vehicle to the scene and conveyed one patient to Bradford Royal Infirmary.”
Three crews—two from Bradford and one from Bingley—rushed to the site, according to a representative for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
They continued: “One casualty was removed from the water by crews and transported to hospital.”
The man was described as “floating from upstream” and “already face down in the water” by someone who was there at The Boathouse at the time.
“Firemen pulled him out and gave him CPR,” stated a second witness.
“He was taken to hospital in an ambulance.”
