Following a horrifying collision that left a 17-year-old boy fighting for his life in the hospital and left a severed limb in the road, police are searching for the hit-and-run driver.
Following the incident on Halifax Road in Bradford’s Buttershaw suburb at approximately 8 p.m. yesterday, West Yorkshire Police released a request for assistance in locating a driver today.
The police added that before they found the injured pedestrian the same car had hit, they had been pursuing the driver, who was allegedly speeding.
A disturbing video that MailOnline was able to view showed a victim lying in the middle of the road with their arms spread while several males congregated nearby.
Then, a severed lower limb was visible a few meters distant in the graphic footage.
There were police officers clustered inside the barrier, and there was debris in the road, including a shoe.
The high-speed impact crash was deemed “horrendous” by the locals.
A crew from Forensic Collision Investigation was also seen on camera arriving at the scene.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct has received a voluntary referral from West Yorkshire Police.
According to the force, a marked car on the other side had observed a vehicle that was “believed to be travelling above the speed limit.”
In a statement, WYP said: ‘As the patrol car turned around to the opposite carriageway, the suspect vehicle was now out of sight. ‘Officers then located a pedestrian on Halifax Road who had been hit by the suspect vehicle which had failed to stop at the scene. ‘A 17-year-old male suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.’
The route remained closed today as the enquiries proceeded.
According to police, anyone with information regarding the incident or possible dash cam footage of the car should get in touch with them by calling 101 or using the LiveChat feature at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat and referencing log 1763 of September 16.
