A 17-year-old was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an adolescent he stabbed on a packed dance floor.
Yura Varybrus was sentenced to at least 16 years in Brighton Crown Court after being found guilty of murder and possessing a bladed article in a prior hearing.

Varybrus’ name was no longer restricted from being reported, according to Judge Christine Henson KC, who also declared that the crime had shocked the community and was “particularly grave.”

Instead of what should have been an end of academic year celebration, Charlie was stabbed… on a crowded marquee dance floor,” the judge said in imposing the sentence.Charlie’s death left an incalculable hole in the lives of his friends and family.
She acknowledged that it was a “spontaneous” incident and that Varybrus might not have brought the knife to the gathering.

However, she informed Vary Bus that it was “a significant factor that you were aware that you had the knife with you during the evening and that you were carrying it.”

Varybrus would go back in time if he could, Sarah Jones, KC, said in mitigation. She also said, “He will always be known for something he cannot even remember; that was the work of a drunken few seconds.”

She said he realized Charlie didn’t deserve what had happened to him and that his family wasn’t entitled to their son’s passing.

The court heard during the trial that Charlie was stabbed after a fight broke out and that Varybrus and his friends were asked to leave the party.

The knife is still missing.

Witnesses reported hearing Varybrus, then 16 years old, say, “I’ve stabbed someone,” and seeing him “drenched” in blood.

Charlie was later discovered to have been stabbed by his friends when they found him lying on the grass.  While en route to the hospital, Charlie experienced a cardiac arrest due to internal bleeding stemming from a cut to his aorta, the main artery leading from the heart. Two days later, he passed away.
