Bristol Rovers’ mystery trialist has been identified as Micah Anthony while Bristol Live also understands that former Cardiff City legend Sean Morrison has been training with the Gas. Anthony is a 20-year-old winger who was most recently at Queens Park Rangers but was released at the end of last season and is now looking for a new club. The youngster came on for the final 30 minutes of Rovers’ 3-0 friendly win over Yeovil Town, deployed on the left-flank, and looked lively with an expected hunger to impress.

Sporting the number 44 shirt while listed as ‘trialist’, Anthony could’ve had a goal on another day as a save from Yeovil goalkeeper Ollie Wright to deny Ollie Dewsbury was parried almost directly into the path of the young winger who would’ve had a tap in. Instead, with the ball just too far behind him, he picked up and cut inside to shoot with the effort blocked.

He also managed to get his head to a cross ahead of Wright but with the big ‘keeper also jumping in an attempt to get to the ball first, there was little room for the trialist to guide his effort on goal with the ball looping over the bar.

The Gas aren’t particularly stacked with wingers with Scott Sinclair and Luke Thomas Rovers’ key options. However, it appears as though Matt Taylor is prioritising a system that incorporates wing-backs with new arrivals Bryant Bilongo and Joel Senior particularly impressing while Jack Hunt came off the bench at Huish Park.

What the Gas’ plan for the trialist is for the remainder of summer is yet to be seen but they will face Championship side Swansea City in a behind closed doors friendly on Friday before jetting off to Portugal on Sunday for a week-long camp that will also see them play friendlies against Bromley and Portimonense.
