We do not underestimate the concerns of the local community following this recent incident of knife crime and serious violence in Bristol. It is because of this that we have made the decision to bring in the section 60 powers for our officers

They’re all still under police arrest.

A portion of Bristol has been granted enhanced stop-and-search powers, which went into effect at 7 p.m. on Sunday and will initially last for 24 hours, according to the force.

On Sunday afternoon, Superintendent Lisa Simpson gave permission to exercise the authority under Sections 60 and 60AA of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.

In order to stop serious violence, uniformed cops will have the authority to stop and search any person or vehicle inside a designated area for a weapon.

“We do not undervalue the concerns of the local community in light of this recent incident of knife crime and serious violence in Bristol,” Ms. Simpson stated.

This is the reason we have decided to give our officers section 60 authority.

If an officer suspects someone of having knives or other weapons that could be used in serious violence in the area, they have the right to stop and search them under section 60.

In addition, “they will also have the authority under section 60AA to request that individuals take off face coverings if they have reasonable suspicion that the wearer is hiding their identity.”

A superintendent may decide to extend the authorization for an additional 24 hours after it has expired.

According to the force, officers will continue to conduct standard stop-and-search procedures, which include providing a reason for the stop, documenting the exchange on body-worn video, and providing the stopped individual with a receipt.
