The two Ryanair pilots who “achieved so much” in their brief lives have been honoured by their families, who lost them in a road collision involving a car and two lorries.
On July 11, a taxi carrying Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Jamie Fernandes, 24, who were employed as captain and senior first officer, respectively, collided on the M62 close to Warrington.
At the site, they passed away. The cab driver was rushed to the hospital for treatment after suffering severe injuries.

The families said that donations will be utilised to create a scholarship program that will assist individuals aspiring to become pilots from all backgrounds.

Lost without you

Matt was “constantly seeking new adventures” and loved travelling with his wife Hannah, whom he married just three months ago, according to a statement from Matt’s family and the Cheshire Constabulary.
According to his relatives, “Matt had a passion for life and seized every opportunity that came his way.”
“In such a short life, he had already accomplished so much, and there was yet so much left to do.

“His excellent career at Ryanair, where he was just appointed to captain, was the result of his hard work and commitment. He was passionate about aviation and the great vistas that could be seen from the aircraft.”He was a devoted husband, considerate son, devoted brother, loving grandpa, esteemed coworker, and cherished friend.
“Without you, we are lost. In our hearts, you will always be.

Our darling boy

Jamie’s family expressed their gratitude that he had fulfilled his childhood passion of flying and stated he was “living his best life”.
“In his too-short life he packed in so much and made the most of every moment.”He enjoyed going to work every day because, as he put it, “the sun always shines above the clouds” and he was clearly surrounded by a really wonderful family of friends and coworkers.

“He valued all of his friends greatly, both from the flying community and from school. He possessed a wicked sense of humour and was incredibly nice. Our sweet boy was a devoted nephew, cousin, grandson, and son. He is and always will be the source of light in our life.

According to the statement, a Go Fund Me page that was created apart from the families has already raised over £36,000.
The family has opted to use these monies, in addition to contributions earned by Matt and Jamie’s coworkers, to support a scholarship that enables anyone to pursue their dream of becoming pilots, regardless of their background.
The announcement also stated that Ryanair will erect a plaque at East Midlands Training Centre with both of their names on it.

Additionally, the airline intends to launch the “Matt Greenhalgh and Jamie Fernandes Memorial Award,” which will be given annually to the cadet who performs the best.
