A woman was airlifted to Aintree Hospital after falling from a bridge onto the M56.
The motorway was closed in both directions near to J14 for Hapsford Interchange at around 12pm on Sunday after police were called to reports of a concern for a woman’s welfare. Police and paramedics found a woman had fallen from a bridge on the motorway.
When emergency services were on the scene, National Highways set up detours. Paramedics attended to the woman on the spot and then transported her to Aintree Hospital.
North West Ambulance Service said the woman was airlifted to hospital with a potentially serious head injury. The road was closed in both directions while officers dealt with the incident. It reopened at 1.15pm.
