The ‘Terrace Talk’ series from Football League World features the views of our FLW Fan Pundits on a variety of topics, including teams, players, managers, potential signings, breaking news, and more.

The Burnley fan analyst for FLW is not in favour of the team trying to sign Lewis O’Brien, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest.

In light of their lack of playing time at the City Ground, three clubs have made loan offers to the Reds this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

In the competition for his temporary signature, Burnley will have to contend with Sheffield United and MLS team LAFC.

O’Brien was loaned out to Middlesbrough last season in order to receive regular playing time because he had dropped down the hierarchy at the Premier League team.

According to all Fbref statistics, he appeared in the Championship for Michael Carrick’s team 23 times, starting 18 of those games.

Ben Livingstone, a Burnley supporter on FLW, thinks that if the Clarets are looking to add a midfielder, they ought to focus on other players.

He doesn’t think the 25-year-old can return to the level of play he did when at Huddersfield Town and feels other players should be given more priority.

Livingstone told Football League World, “To be honest, I don’t think it would be that great of a signing.”

“I don’t really like it.

“Aside from a fantastic season at Huddersfield, he hasn’t accomplished anything.”

“After moving to Nottingham Forest, he was never even listed as a member of the team.

So, until you have any outgoings, I don’t think we need a center-midfielder.

We have Cullen, Berge, Brownhill, and Ramsey, who are all capable of playing in midfield. Adding another player would be nice, but it wouldn’t be cheap because he would be paid well at Forest. “If you can get him back to his old Huddersfield form then fantastic, but I just can’t see him replicating that for us. So, personally, I don’t think he’d be that great for us. Do you really want a loan move for someone who is 25 years old? He can be a really good player at this level, but he’s really only shown that over the course of one season.

But we’re talking about the Championship and at the minute, so he’s only done it once, but other than that he’s not been fantastic, wasn’t great at Boro, he wasn’t anything special. “I think there’s better options we could get on a permanent [transfer].” Lewis O’Brien’s importance to Nottingham Forest O’Brien was a key part of the Huddersfield side that reached the play-off final in 2022, which they lost to Nottingham Forest. The defeat led to the player making the switch to the Reds ahead of their return to the Premier League.
