Prior to Burnley’s crucial victory over Sheffield United, Vincent Kompany maintains that he never considered switching up the goalkeeping lineup.

The focus was on Arijanet Muric, who led Burnley in scoring despite committing two costly mistakes in two games.

However, Kompany persisted in supporting the Kosovan at Bramall Lane, and his belief was undoubtedly vindicated as Muric put on a fantastic performance during the 4-1 victory.

While speculation about Burnley’s starting custodian has dominated discussions among fans and onlookers for the majority of the season, Kompany claims that he and his coaching staff have not found the same level of comfort in the situation.

We have two excellent goalkeepers, so I’m the only one who seems to believe it’s a luxury issue,” he remarked.

“Of course, if you play in a position where they play, your one mistake will be more noticeable than the others.

“However, there is one glaring error in the goal we gave up on Saturday that I could point out, but you can get away with it a little bit more when you’re in a different position on the pitch.

As a coach, I have to have faith in my players throughout the season since they are all still developing and still getting used to this level of play. Perhaps the reason we’re improving over the course of the season isn’t accidental.

“However, that requires supporting them during difficult times, and we’ve done that repeatedly this season.”

Before Saturday’s victory over the Blades, Kompany was asked if he thought about making any changes. He replied, “No, we just have to back our players.” It is what it is, really.

Muric was spotted pointing to the bench a few times towards the end of the game, as though he was having trouble with something.

Meanwhile, Lyle Foster hobbled off after netting his first goal since the December match against Aston Villa.

Despite the criticism, Kompany didn’t seem overly concerned, saying, “No, I think they’re all fine.” There have been no reports of emergencies.

“Even before the game, Kyle was in danger due to a challenging pregame routine. Following the display and the goal, it made sense to give another striker a chance.
