The two players that shone out in last Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane were goalkeeper Arijanet Muric and midfielder Sander Berge, who secured the top two spots in both the player ratings and the man of the match categories.
The vote for man of the match was extremely close; Muric won after the two alternated positions repeatedly. With 40% of the vote, he defeated former Blade Berge, who received 39% of the vote. Lorenz Assignon, who first scored for Burnley before receiving an assist, finished third with 13% of the vote, while Josh Cullen finished fourth with just 2%.
In the ratings, Berge was the top performer. Only three players have defeated his 8.58 out of ten score this season: Lyle Foster, James Trafford, and Muric. Muric finished in second place with a 7.98 score. Cullen had a rating of 7.60, placing him third, while Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson, a substitute, came in fourth place with a 7.53 out of ten.
In the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Trophy, Berge and Muric have both earned eight points. Cullen, Assignon, and Guðmundsson have two, two, and one point, respectively. There are four games left, and the race for the top spots behind winner Berge is fierce. Currently in second place, Dara O’Shea may be overtaken by Lyle Foster, Cullen, or perhaps Muric before the season is out.
