Billy Kellock, a former midfielder for Luton Town, went away at the age of 70.
The Glaswegian began his career with Aston Villa before moving on to Cardiff City in 1972, where, at the age of 18, he made his League debut for the Bluebirds. After stints with Norwich City, Millwall, and Kettering, he returned to league play and captained Peterborough’s Posh, scoring 43 goals in 134 starts to draw Town manager David Pleat’s notice. Though the midfielder only spent a brief time at Kenilworth Road, the Hatters chief spent £30,000 on Kellock in July 1982, when the team had recently gained promotion to the top tier.
In addition to playing in the League Cup and once in the FA Cup, he made two starts in the top division, one each against Nottingham Forest and Sunderland. In the Town’s 4-2 third-round triumph against Blackpool, he scored his only two goals. After making just nine appearances overall, Kellock moved to Wolves in March 1983, where he assisted the Molineux team in winning promotion from Division Two. He then left to play for Southend, Port Vale, and Halifax before returning to Kettering to manage a country club after retiring.
