A number of traffic lights and road closures are in place as work continues on the Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR).

The Carlisle Southern Link Road will connect Junction 42 of the M6 with the A595 to the west. The route will include new junctions linking existing radial routes into Carlisle and the proposed Garden Village. The route will include bridges over two main railway lines and the Caldew and Petteril rivers, a network of footways and cycleways and an extensive programme of landscaping and environmental mitigation.

The 8 km road will enable the successful and expedited development of St Cuthbert’s Garden Village by providing access and network capacity, as well as essential infrastructure to relieve Carlisle’s traffic congestion.

Cumberland Council will begin work on the following roads on Monday, July 15:

Dalston Road and A595:

Two-way traffic lights on Peter Lane from Monday through Friday allow for the safe crossing of plants.

Dalston Road is closed from Monday through Sunday. For around 14 weeks, there won’t be any access between Peter Lane and Brow Nelson in order to build the new Cummersdale roundabout and footbridge. There is a detour route in place that is clearly signed.

Grace Lane is closed from Monday through Sunday. Residents have access to alternate access in order to facilitate service diversions for third parties connected to the newly constructed Cummersdale roundabout.

Durdar towards the M6

Ratten Row: Complete closure from Monday to Sunday. Buckabank Road does not provide access. This closure will make it easier to carry out the drainage and earthworks in this area. We will be closing this minor part for a few weeks. A detour route with adequate signage is in place.

Wreay Road is closed from Monday through Sunday. During this time, Newbiggin Road will not be accessible in order to facilitate construction related to the new Brisco roundabout. A detour route with adequate signage is in place.

Buckabank Road has two-way traffic lights from Monday through Friday that allow vehicles to cross the plant safely.

Ivegill Road has two-way traffic lights from Monday through Friday that allow vehicles to cross the plant safely.

Redcat Crossroads: Roadworks related to the new roundabout and two-way traffic lights to ease plant access are in place Monday through Friday.

Two-way traffic lights are installed on Newbiggin Road (next to M6 Junction 42) Monday through Friday to help with plant access and construction-related activities.
