Sky Sports: Celtic in talks to sign £8m ace who Sutton called “sensational”

For Brendan Rodgers, Celtic has begun negotiations to sign a player valued at £8 million; earlier this year, former Hoops forward Chris Sutton gave the player high marks.

Rumours of a Celtic transfer
Despite speculations earlier in the year indicating that Celtic aim to buy a new custodian, winger and striker ahead of the 2024–25 season, those at Parkhead have not yet made an impression during the transfer window. Shortly after the January transfer window ended, Rodgers said that the team might be “braver” in their acquisitions, hoping to bring in “another level of player” who is “ready-made.”

“I would agree with fans who believe we might perhaps be a little more daring in terms of bringing in players of a higher calibre. However, it is my responsibility to try to remedy it while I am still here. Looking at this approach, you need to exercise caution because it has proven effective in certain situations. Players are brought in at a low cost, and they go on to provide significant revenue for the team.
Since it’s a crucial component of the current game, I intend to strike a balance by allowing us to continue doing that during my tenure here. However, we also aspire to have the guts to throw on the towel and accept a ready-made player.

Though there have been several reports regarding transfer targets, that can come at a price. One rumour stated that Celtic had accepted an offer beyond £7 million for Fenerbahce custodian Dominik Livakovic, who played for Croatia in the 2024 European Championship.

Attacker Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby has also been connected to a move to Glasgow, and Adam Idah, who is now on loan, is “extremely keen” to return to Celtic Park permanently. Regarding the Republic of Ireland international, there has been an update.

Open Adam Idah talks for Celtic
Sky Sports reports that Celtic has launched an attempt to sign Idah permanently, although after preliminary discussions, the two teams are still at odds about the forward’s worth.

The Hoops reportedly made an offer of £4 million, but prior rumours indicated that the Canaries were looking to pay almost £8 million for the striker’s services.

It remains to be seen if Celtic make a better offer again, but if a deal is reached for the striker, Rodgers might be a pleased boss.

Sutton dubbed the 23-year-old “sensational,” as he scored nine goals in 19 games to help the Hoops win both the league and the cup the previous year. After signing Idah in January, Rodgers gave him high praise, saying:

“Adam, I’m really looking forward to working and conversing with him over the next four days after watching him play. He truly possesses all the tools necessary to play at the greatest level; his ability is astounding. He’s clearly doing it across the globe, and his performance at Norwich has been a little bit erratic.

However, when evaluating I’m excited about what he can provide us over the next several months as we see him in training and witness his finishing touch, speed, and speed.
