Charlie Mulgrew, a former Celtic defender, is planning to go from playing to coaching.

The 38-year-old’s ability to play a variety of positions won him praise from the Parkhead supporters, who admired his adaptable presence in green and white.

In 206 games with Celtic, the former Scotland international finished with 28 goals and 34 assists, taking home eight trophies from Glasgow’s east end [Transfermarkt].

Mulgrew, who played for the club in the 2010s, is following in the footsteps of Jonny Hayes and incoming Hoops Under-18 coach Adam Asghar by enrolling in the UEFA Pro-License course, as we reported last month.

After spending some time on the punditry circuit sharing his knowledge of Celtic and Scottish football, he is now expected to land an intriguing role.

Charlie Mulgrew set to land exciting coaching position

Charlie Mulgrew, who will succeed Sean Crighton, who left Hamilton Academical recently, is expected to be introduced as the new Under-18 coach today, according to The Daily Record.

According to the publication, Seref Zengin, the owner of Accies, is updating the highly regarded academy framework. In advance of the upcoming season, the former Celtic is expected to make an announcement soon.

The Lanarkshire team has produced players like James McCarthy and James McArthur in the past. Meanwhile, promising talents Ryan One, Cormac Daly, and Gabe Forsyth moved south of the line after Hamilton won the Club Academy Scotland Elite Under-18 league the previous year.

It is vitally crucial for the Scottish game to provide young players with the resources they need to succeed. Mulgrew has now secured an esteemed position that will allow him to share his knowledge with the upcoming talent.

Hopefully, after a stellar playing career most recognised for his time at Celtic, he can thrive in his new environment.

David Martindale makes a bizarre ‘really honest’ transfer claim about Celtic

Prior to Ange Postecoglou joining the team, Celtic used to find Livingston to be a bit of a nightmare.

Celtic only defeated Livingston three times in nine tries from the 2018–19 season to 2021, as David Martindale’s team used to step up their game against the Hoops. [Transfermarkt]

Martindale is currently planning his strategy to return them to the top division of the SPFL while they are in the Scottish Championship, but he will need to do it without one of his greatest players.

Martindale: James Penrice could play for Celtic

James Penrice, a former midfielder for Livingston, completed his transfer to Hearts this week, and Martindale thinks he’s good enough to play for Celtic.

“He’s worked really, really hard at the defensive side of his game,” Hearts Standard quoted Martindale as saying.

Sincerely speaking, I believe Hearts have won a game with him. I can see James playing for the Rangers or the Celtics. This is me being really, really honest, and some people may find this funny.

That’s how much I think of him. He is able to handle the ball. He wouldn’t look out of place playing for anyone in the top three, in my opinion, since Hearts is a top-three team.

Penrice, who is 25, did well to secure a position at one of Scotland’s top teams, but it’s absurd to think he might play for Celtic.

The left-back was a member of the Livingston defence that allowed 59 goals to be scored last season, despite having no prior international experience.

Furthermore, Penrice wasn’t even Livingston’s greatest player the previous season, according to Fotmob.

Greg Taylor, who is currently with Celtic, is a lot better choice in that role than the recent Hearts addition. With all due respect, Penrice is not the guy Brendan Rodgers is looking for to push Taylor or possibly replace him on the Celtics squad next season.

Rodgers is searching for individuals who can compete at that level as the next Champions League campaign draws near, and Penrice is not one of those players.
