This summer, Celtic will consider bids for left-back Adam Montgomery, people close to the team have told Football Insider.

Prior to joining Motherwell in January, Montgomery played the first half of this season on loan at Fleetwood Town, an English League One team.

The 21-year-old is not in Brendan Rodgers’s long-term plans and does not have a future with the Hoops.

In order to profit from the Scotsman before his Celtic Park contract expires in June 2025, the Glasgow club is currently attempting to sign him.

Montgomery’s season has been terribly disappointing in terms of Fleetwood and Motherwell. The defender was back north of the border in January, having played just six games for the English League One team.

Montgomery only made one appearance for Motherwell prior to suffering a severe hamstring strain, which forced him to return to Celtic in order to complete his recovery.

With his failure to leave a lasting impact in Glasgow, it is more probable than not that he will be leaving the Hoops permanently this summer.

Montgomery has only made 20 senior appearances at Celtic Park since graduating from the club’s youth, the majority of which were during the 2021–2022 season under former manager Ange Postecoglou.

Since then, the left-back has gone on loan to two more Scottish Premiership teams, Aberdeen and St Johnstone, but neither stint helped him reach his goal of playing for Parkhead’s first team. It seems that Rodgers has moved on from Montgomery and will want to get rid of him when the transfer window reopens.
That might provide the Hoops manager extra money for future signings and give the Scotsman a chance to start over somewhere else.
