Lewis Morgan, a former Celtic winger, was unexpectedly called up to the Scotland Euro 2024 provisional squad.
Steve Clarke, the manager of Scotland, made this last-minute choice as the team’s preparations for the competition are complicated by a slew of injuries. Tommy Conway was recently added to the team by Clarke to take Lyndon Dykes’ place when Ben Doak withdrew.
With nine goals and three assists this season for the New York Red Bulls, Morgan has been a standout player for the team. However, his MLS performances have earned him a surprise inclusion in the national team for the upcoming friendly against Finland, which could result in his third international cap and his first since a 2018 friendly against Mexico. The Brendan Rodgers signing left Celtic before Covid struck in January 2020 to head to David Beckham’s Inter Miami, but he has since moved to NYRB.
