Both Chile and Peru have a point after their goalless draw in Group A. Canada Soccer is looking into a racist abuse allegation made during their 2-0 loss to Argentina.

Chile’s Copa America opener against Peru ended in a 0-0 tie, thanks in large part to custodian Claudio Bravo. The result left Group A wide open.

The sides completely destroyed each other in a rough and low-quality first half. Alexis Sanchez of Chile had the finest chance in the fifteenth minute, but he misfired after making a cunning move into the six-yard box.

In the second half, Peru under Jorge Fossati played with purpose and produced several good chances, but Bravo of Chile made a series of saves to maintain parity, including an incredible double save to deny Paolo Guerrero and Gianluca Lapadula.

For the former Manchester City and Barcelona goalkeeper, who at 41 years, 2 months and 16 days became the oldest-ever Copa America player, his goalkeeping performance added even more significance to the evening.

The nations finished with one point apiece and were two behind Argentina, the leaders of Group A, after the reigning champions defeated Canada 2-0 on Thursday.

In other Group A action, Canada Soccer announced they were in communication with the sport’s governing organisations after one of its players was subjected to racial taunts on the internet following their opening-round 2-0 loss to Argentina in the Copa America.

The player’s identity was kept a secret by Canada Soccer, but centre back Moise Bombito came under fire online after making a vicious tackle on Lionel Messi that caught the Argentina captain by the ankle.

In a statement, Canada Soccer stated,  We are deeply troubled by racist remarks made online and directed at one of our men’s national team players following tonight’s match.” Referring to the American football regulatory bodies, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, it stated, “We are in communication with them about this matter.

Argentina won thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez, giving the reigning champions three points, while Canada is still last in Group A.
