Former Australian rugby sevens phenom Georgia Hannaway has signed a three-year NRLW contract with the Sharks.

At the age of eighteen, Hannaway competed for her country in the 2019–20 Sevens World Series. She presently plays in the QRL’s BMD Premiership with the Norths Devils.

Her deal with the Cronulla club expires at the end of 2026.

The highly regarded 23-year-old playmaker has been crucial to her team’s success; in a recent game against the Western Clydesdales, she scored an incredible four tries.

Playing in the Devils’ championship game, the gifted five-eighth will be ready to go when she reports to Cronulla for preseason training.

“Georgia has great footballing instincts, as she’s shown in the BMD Premiership, and will be a valuable addition to our squad,” Tony Herman, the Sharks coach, stated.

“She’s a strong ball runner, extremely quick and will be primed to succeed in the NRLW given her experience in the international arena at a young age.”

As Hannaway played sevens for Australia alongside Emma Tonegato and Rhiannon Byers, she will have some familiar faces to help her settle into life in the Sutherland Shire.

She returned to rugby league this season and has scored nine tries in as many games for Norths after undergoing a shoulder repair last year. As a teenager, Hannaway played 13-a-side code before converting to sevens.

“The opportunity the Sharks have given me to demonstrate my abilities to them means the world to me. Thank you very much, Hannaway remarked.

“I had a really rough year last year with ups and downs with injuries, so I didn’t expect anything this year. I was sailing back into league, without giving it any thought. However, the instructors have made me feel so welcome that I was unable to decline.

“I’m hoping I can bring a little bit of my flair to the Sharks and join up with girls like Emma Tonegato and Jada Taylor to show everyone what we can do.”
