Roy Hodgson, manager of Crystal Palace, resigns when the team finishes 16th in the Premier League.

Hodgson, 76, was reportedly going to be fired when he was “taken ill” during training on Thursday.

The Eagles are now 16th in the standings, five points above the relegation zone, and have lost 10 of their last 16 Premier League games.

Hodgson remarked, “This club is very special and means so much to me.”

Monday night, Palace takes on 18th-place Everton in the Premier League, led by assistants to Hodgson, Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington.

Oliver Glasner, a 49-year-old former Eintracht Frankfurt manager, is the clear choice to succeed Hodgson permanently.

Over the course of six seasons, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here since it has allowed me to work with elite players and staff every day while doing what I love,” Hodgson continued.

But given the current situation, I recognise that it might be wise for the team to make plans ahead of time. For that reason, I have decided to step down, allowing the team to move forward with their summertime plans to appoint a new manager.

I’m sure the season will end well, and I hope the team has the best possible weeks, months, and seasons ahead of them.
