Due to repairs, one of the Dartford Crossing’s tunnels will be closed starting tonight (Saturday, July 20) and lasting until the early hours of Sunday morning. For the purpose of “re-waterproofing” a bridge on the motorway close to the A13, the west tunnel of the M25’s northbound crossing will be closed.
According to National Highways, throughout July and August of 2024, they will be resurfacing and waterproofing the bridge that supports the M25 anticlockwise traffic between junction 31 with Lakeside Shopping Centre and junction 30 with the A13. On the first weekend of the month, the first shift was finished.
“The second phase of work is planned to occur this weekend between 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, and 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 21,” a spokeswoman stated. In order to ensure the safety of the work, the hard shoulder of the Dartford West tunnel will be closed, and lanes one and two will continue northbound between M25 junction 31 and junction 30.
Similar to the first closure that occurred earlier this month, all traffic will be routed via the nearby Dartford East tunnel. Our staff will be operating in the nearside (left-hand side) lanes of lane three between M25 junctions 31 and 30. There won’t be any limitations required for travel in the other direction when heading towards the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.
Please allow extra time for your trip if you intend to use the crossing while this work is being done if you’re heading north. Our next closure is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 28. This will necessitate an adjustment to traffic control.
“The Dartford east tunnel will close and the west tunnel will remain open as we progress the work in the offside (right-hand side) lanes.”
