Cambridge United are back in action this weekend at home to promotion chasing Derby County as they look to pick up the points they need to stay in League One.

The U’s fell 1-0 away to Bristol Rovers last time out and are still not safe as they try to escape slipping to League Two.

According to BBC Sport, Monk stated ahead of their encounter with the Rams: “We don’t just want to get the points and be safe; we want to finish strong and show what we can do.” Looking at the last five performances, you can tell that the level has increased significantly, as has the mentality.

“I am confident that we will continue this in the remaining three games. We’ll be alright if we just get the lucky break at the appropriate time and take advantage of it.”

The U’s are desperate for points still and Monk has challenged his players to end this campaign on a high.

In March, they hired the former Swansea City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City, and Sheffield Wednesday manager when Neil Harris left for Millwall. He has already won two of his eight games in command.

Cambridge United are 19th in the table after their defeat against Bristol Rovers, five points above the relegation zone.

They have three games remaining to rescue themselves and need five points to be mathematically secure, with Port Vale, Cheltenham Town, and Burton Albion all hoping that they slip up.

Derby County are within four points from promotion to the Championship. Shrewsbury Town did them a huge help yesterday by holding third-placed Bolton Wanderers to a 2-2 draw.

The Rams are now three points ahead of the Trotters and have a higher goal differential. If they win at the Abbey Stadium, they will just need one point at home on the final day to relegate Carlisle United and join Portsmouth in the second tier.
