Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you how the Rams’ fixtures compare to the other teams chasing promotion

The battle to return to the Championship is entering a dramatic home straight, with Derby County needing to win six more games to gain automatic promotion.

Paul Warne’s team had a chance to create some distance between themselves and Bolton, who are currently in third place, but the Rams lost to Northampton, meaning Ian Evatt’s team is now four points behind them in the standings.

Here, DerbyshireLive examines how Derby’s run-in compares to their opponents and the games where points might be earned or lost with more twists and turns to come in what promises to be an intense conclusion.

Portsmouth

Among the challenging games for John Mousinho’s team in the final stretch are away at Bolton and at home against Barnsley. Under Shaun Maloney, Wigan are not an easy opponent, but Pompey should have had enough, and considering Lincoln City’s current form, no one would be interested in playing them on the last day either.

Of course, the big game for both sides is the Tuesday matchup versus Derby that takes place a week from now. Pompey would be vulnerable to the clubs below them even if they were to draw a few games. Even though they still have seven games to go, you would still expect them to defeat Shrewsbury and Wycombe. There seems to be one more twist left.

Derby County

In what is often described as the ‘Derby way’, the chance to move two points behind Pompey and seven clear of Bolton was squandered during a miserable day at Northampton over the weekend.
