Dolphins utility Euan Aitken, who is currently without a contract for the 2025 NRL season, is very close to signing with a Sydney club.
Under Wayne Bennett, Aitken was a constant in the Dolphins lineup. However, he has been considering a club swap for some time now that he is rumoured to be searching for a long-term agreement.
The Dolphins are only offering him a one-year contract extension, which he is not looking to accept, even if they would like to keep him on staff.
Contract negotiations between Aitken and the South Sydney Rabbitohs have advanced, as reported by The Daily Telegraph. It is expected that the utility will follow coach Wayne Bennett to Heffron.
Aitken, who can play in both the centres and the second row, will probably start the side from the interchange bench, with Jack Wighton, Campbell Graham, Keaon Koloamatangi, and Jai Arrow occupying the starting positions.
According to earlier reports, he is expected to sign a three-year contract with the team, keeping him there until the end of the 2027 campaign.
Aitken played for the Dragons for the majority of his career before joining The Dolphins in 2023. He had previously spent two years (35 games) with the New Zealand Warriors.
In six seasons from 2015 to 2020, he scored 156 points and played in 121 games for the Red V. Since 2016, he has additionally made five appearances for Scotland.
