Tottenham Hotspur is apparently showing interest in retaining former Doncaster Rovers loan star Jacob Ramsey, which is being considered by Aston Villa.
Despite having injury issues the previous season, the 23-year-old is still regarded as one of Villa’s most promising young players. Tottenham Hotspur has been extensively connected to him, but it seems Villa wants to hold onto the former England youth international.
TalkSPORT claims that Villa has turned down a bid from Tottenham, who offered Giovani Lo Celso in exchange for a £20 million payment. Lo Celso was managed by Villa manager Unai Emery at both Paris Saint-Germain and Villareal, but the Villans do not seem to have been persuaded by the cash-plus-player deal.
While cutting his teeth as a young professional at Villa Park, Ramsey was loaned out to Doncaster in January 2020. He immediately showed his potential, taking to life in South Yorkshire like a duck to water.
Under Darren Moore in League One, the attacking midfielder made seven appearances and scored three goals, including six starts. His loan period ended abruptly when the Covid-19 outbreak stopped football in the United Kingdom, even though it looked like he would be a key player for Rovers in the closing stages.
League One play did not continue, and Ramsey returned to Villa even though the Premier League and Championship seasons were subsequently resumed. In a victory over Fulham the next season, he received his Premier League debut. Aaron Ramsey, the midfielder for Burnley, is his brother and is also well-known in Yorkshire after a successful loan at Middlesbrough in 2023.
