Chop shop busted in Doncaster used as a front for stolen vehicles

The Roads Proactive Policing Team conducted a search and raid on a farm in Doncaster, leading to the discovery and seizure of numerous stolen vehicles by law enforcement.
On Wednesday, June 19, in the afternoon, a raid on a suspected “chop shop” in Braithwell resulted in the arrest of two people.

A “chop shop” is a place where stolen cars are disassembled for the purpose of selling or repairing other stolen cars using their parts.

When police arrived on the scene, they saw an HGV with what appeared to be a shipping container set up to move the cars to their next destination.

A number of stolen cars, including a collection of Mercedes that had been taken from Europe, were also discovered.

Before our discovery, it is believed that the stolen vans and their belongings were taken from various locations across the nation and were in the process of having their body panels and engines removed.

Detective Constable Larissa Porter, who combats serious violent crime and organized crime as part of Doncaster’s Operation Fortify team, stated:

Our Roads Proactive Policing Team made a huge discovery with this, which appears to have disrupted a large-scale criminal operation involving the theft of multiple stolen vehicles for their parts.

“We are happy that we were able to prevent the stolen Mercedes cars from being moved in order to hide their true identity. We now hope to be able to reunite the owners of these vehicles with their vehicles that we found at the farm.

“We will not tolerate vehicles being stolen and stripped for their parts in these chop shops, which are frequently linked to larger organized criminality. We are aware of the impact car theft has on innocent people.”

The two individuals who were detained on suspicion of money laundering, handling stolen goods, and possessing illegal property have been released on police bail while more investigation is conducted.
