The small group of Somerset supporters who had travelled 300 miles by car or five and a half hours by train to the North East had it on their faces. This was a devastating loss for Somerset. Even worse for the soul, it wasn’t inevitable at all when the second day began, and it wasn’t any less so thirty minutes later. With just one wicket remaining and Somerset applying intense pressure for the final one, Durham had lost three wickets in that period and were now 28 ahead. After lunch on the first day, Somerset had pulled off an amazing comeback from a disastrous 84 for 7.
