John Blyth will serve a minimum of 13 years
In connection with the death of Paul Smith, who passed away in January 2021 in the Craigmillar Court neighbourhood of Edinburgh, a 47-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison.
Paul Smith was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at approximately 2:20 a.m. Later, on Sunday, January 10, 2021, Mr. Smith passed away.
On Friday, March 15, the High Court in Edinburgh found John Blyth guilty of murder. Today, April 12, in Glasgow’s High Court, he was given a life sentence, with a minimum of 13 years.
“This was a vicious, senseless attack, and John Blyth will now face the consequences of his actions,” stated Detective Inspector Keith Taylor.
“I hope this sentence provides some closure for Paul’s friends and family, even if it cannot undo what John Blyth did to him.
“I also want to express my gratitude to Paul’s family for their support during the investigation and to them for their bravery and dignity in the face of this ordeal.”
