Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon was frustrated by Netherlands’ disallowed goal against France last night. Netherlands and France produced the first goalless stalemate of EURO 2024 on Friday night, but the Dutch had found the net in the second half through Xavi Simons.

However, a VAR check revealed that Inter defender Denzel Dumfries had interfered with play while offside. As a result, the goal was declared invalid.

Due to an injury sustained during a Coppa Italia Final matchup with Juventus in May, De Roon is watching the European Championship from home. Last night, he expressed his displeasure via an Instagram story.

How is that objective prohibited? The midfielder for Atalanta wrote.

De Roon, 33, contributed five assists in 46 games for Atalanta in all competitions during the 2023–24 season.

He was extremely unfortunate to miss both the Euros and Atalanta’s Europa League Final against Bayern Leverkusen, which La Dea won, due to a hamstring injury.

In his 42 appearances for the Netherlands national team, De Roon has scored just once.
