“The supporters cheered us off the pitch, recognising our effort and talent.

In order to make the League One season a success, Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell has pushed his team to demonstrate what they can do in their final ten games. Following their 2-1 loss to Peterborough United on Saturday, City is now 15th in the table, six points above the relegation zone.

At London Road, City put up a fierce fight against “the best team in the league,” and in all honesty, they probably did enough to win at least a point. However, they ultimately lost 2-1, bringing their winless streak to four games.

The next matchup for City is at home against Bolton Wanderers, who defeated them 7-0 in the previous meeting and are currently third in the standings with only goal differential separating them from second. However, Caldwell’s team will play teams lower in the standings in four of their next five games.

The manager remarked, “The fans recognised the effort and quality we had shown and they applauded us off the pitch.” “We can still gain ground, make this a successful season, and improve upon last year. There is a lot to look forward to.”

“Peterborough are the best team in the league for me in terms of quality and the way they play, but for large parts we matched that and kept going right to the very end. Later in the game we dominated and we could have got something from that period. It is a big disappointment but it is a massive pride and a lot to take from the performance into the final ten games.

“They are a top team, will be at least in the play-offs, if not the automatics, and we had a ten minute spell where we had to see it out with more bravery when we won the ball, run out of trouble rather than kick away and invite more pressure. We grew into the game, had chances at the end, and it wasn’t for want of trying we lost the game.”

Ephron Mason-Clark put Posh ahead with just four minutes on the clock with his 14 th goal of the season when he was the quickest to react after a melee in the box to fire home. City rallied and levelled in the 36 th minute when Tom Carroll’s deflected effort looped in to make it 1-1. Kwame Poku restored Peterborough’s lead midway through the second half as wave after wave of pressure eventually told as he drilled home from 20 yards to make it 2-1. Despite City pushing hard for the equalizer, it didn’t come.
