After ending his football career last year, Troy Deeney is now giving pool a shot. The former captain of Birmingham City has been given a wildcard entrance for the UK Open Pool Championship, which takes place next month.
Deeney left Blues at the end of the previous season and signed with Forest Green Rovers. The thirty-five-year-old scored four goals in sixteen League Two games before to taking over as manager in December.
Shortly after taking over as manager of Forest Green for six games without a victory, Deeney was fired. He has returned to our television screens to provide his thoughts on games, and on May 7 he will make his debut in a new sport.
“Isn’t that something different? Something entirely different,” Deeney said to Sky Sports. I enjoy testing the limits a little bit and watching what happens.
“I have always had the utmost respect for athletes in all sports. Since it takes years and hours of effort and dedication to do what they do, I figure why not give it a shot when the chance arises.
The goal is to go there and not look foolish, to be honest, but also to be vulnerable and modest enough to realise that these guys have been doing this for a long time. You can’t expect to defeat these men with a few months of real training and years of strange playing—sometimes while drinking beer as well—all poured into it.
“However, I’m confident that my competitive edge will surface whenever I engage in any activity. I’ll try it.My ultimate objective is to advance the sport as much as I am able to.
