With only three points separating them right now, this meeting is crucial for the battle for relegation. This season, one or both of the clubs could lose, and this will be a game that was undoubtedly the talk of the town a few weeks ago.

Even though Forest Green is exactly behind Grimsby in 23rd place, they enter the race in much better form. Steve Cotterill’s team has amassed a very respectable seven points over the last five games, demonstrating that they are not going to be defeated easily. They have managed to free themselves from the bottom and are now within close proximity to safety.

The Mariners are really winless since the start of the New Year and have only managed to accumulate two points throughout that same stretch. While it is not a given, this would be the perfect game to return to winning ways.

Having not played in the middle of the week, Grimsby is the more rested of the two, but they should be concerned about Forest Green’s performance during the week. Up until a stoppage-time penalty for their rivals, Rovers managed to hold high-flying Wrexham to a 1-1 draw and appeared to be certain to win all three points.

The reason I don’t want to go into too much detail is that I’m sure Forest Green Rovers will come away with all three points from today.

There are many reasons for Forest Green to be optimistic about their game against Wrexham, even though the Mariners may have had more sleep before the match. Their recent form is far superior to Grimsby’s.

It was a considerably stronger performance than what is anticipated of a team in 23rd place, even though they weren’t able to exactly see that one through. In the battle for relegation, this game is crucial. Here, I anticipate goals and a reasonably easy victory for the home team.

We frequently discuss six-pointers. Games with potential significance if the outcome stays the same. games when one team genuinely needs more than the other. However, the outcome of this match is crucial for both teams’ chances of making it through League Two this year. Although Forest Green Rovers are now in the bottom two, they are starting to believe that they may catch up to those above them after a recent run of strong results, which included a midweek draw against promotion-hopeful Wrexham. Grimsby is, of course, one of those sides.

Many people, like myself, believed that the Mariners made a good hire in David Artell, who may help them go up the league ladder. That did not go as planned, and they are not going to win in 2024 going into this. Given that, I find it difficult to see them winning this game again. That being said, I don’t think Forest Green has improved enough to make this a simple win for them.
