In East Ayrshire, human remains were discovered inside a burned-out van.
At around noon on Monday, the van was found burning in a layby on a single-track road in Newmilns.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene near Galston Moor, often known as Monk Belt or Mast Walk locally, between Priestland and Darvel.
According to the police, the death is being investigated as unexplained and the remains have not yet been formally identified.

It’s unknown why the van was parked in the layby or how it got started on fire, according to Det Insp Craig Gilmour.
He continued: “It is vital anyone with information comes forward. “The location is quite scenic and popular with hikers and dog walkers, and it’s likely a lot of vehicles will have driven by the site at the time.”

He encouraged anyone who witnessed the fire or has information to contact Police Scotland via their non-emergency number.
He said, “I would also ask that you get in contact if you heard any loud noises or if there are any drivers with dashcam footage that may be of significance.”
