Since signing from Gateshead, the 23-year-old has been a regular contributor for MK Dons
Though Stephen Wearne grew up dreaming of this exact scenario, the promotion battle MK Dons are in may be somewhat of a pressure cooker.
With two games remaining, the Dons trail the Hatters by just one point going into this Saturday’s matchup against Stockport County, another team vying for automatic promotion. However, a victory would move Mike Williamson’s team up the standings with six games remaining.
Some would think that would be a big enough reason to feel the pressure of expectation or of hope. But not Wearne.
All you have to do is have fun. We’re all living the dream, whether you want to call it anxious or under pressure,” he remarked.
This is what drew us together as a team and as players to football in the first place. We desired to compete in high-stakes games and to engage in promotions battles.
“When there’s a lot at stake, winning just a little bit increases the fun factor.” The season finale promises to be enjoyable, and hopefully we succeed in finishing the task.
I make an effort to live each day to the fullest, seize every chance I receive, and look forward to putting on my shirt and representing this club while grinning.
After joining in January from non-league Gateshead, Wearne had to wait his turn to recover from an injury and get into the team. However, he has hardly looked back since.
Wearne has barely missed a beat in his ten outings thus far. Wearne increased his tally of goal contributions to eight since his move to three goals and five assists on Saturday in the 3-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra.
“It’s difficult to come in with an injury then trying to get back up to speed,” he remarked. I’ve had some little annoyances, but hopefully those are behind me.
“I joined the squad for the first time in January, and the guys were amazing with me; I had no trouble adjusting.” I’m having a great time in there; the group is unique.”
