Club statement after Deakin University and Geelong Cats extend partnership that got fans excited

We’re excited to announce a three-year partnership extension with Deakin University

Deakin University and the Cats will work together across Deakin’s School of Exercise and Nutrition Science and Geelong’s High-Performance teams as a Co-Major partner of the Cats AFLW programme. This collaboration will be facilitated by the sharing of training facilities, access to the GMHBA Stadium, and increased chances for student participation.

Deakin University students will continue to complete their assignments at the Club in the fields of performance technology, nutrition, and strength and conditioning as a result of the mutually beneficial cooperation.

Simon Kelleher, Chief Operating Officer of Geelong Football Club, expressed his satisfaction with the long-standing partnership’s 20-year extension.

We’re overjoyed to be able to continue working with Deakin University as the official university and education partner of the Geelong Cats, as well as Co-Major partners of our AFLW programme.

Over the past 20 years, we have been able to create and considerably grow a mutually beneficial alliance as two institutions with deep roots in the larger Geelong community, notably in high performance, athlete development, and community connection.

Professor Iain Martin, Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, expressed the university’s excitement in supporting the Cats for an additional three years, both on and off the pitch.

“Our expert team at the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, the world’s top sport science school, will continue to benefit Geelong players with the most recent advancements in sport science,” said Professor Martin.

“Our students will also have the chance to work with elite athletes and the professional teams that push them to reach their full potential in the industry through exciting placement opportunities.”
