With two games left, Scotland has confirmed that five players from their Americas tour have returned home.

Robbie Smith of Northampton Saints, prop Elliot Millar-Mills of Glasgow Warriors, and fly-half The five players are Ross Thompson, his teammate Ross McCann, and Edinburgh lock Glen Young.

In their opening game on the trip, a 73-12 victory over Canada included all five players, with Smith and McCann making their national team debuts. Gregor Townsend’s matchday squad for the 42-7 victory over the United States in Washington still included Smith, Millar-Mills, and Thompson, all of whom came off the bench.

Lock Glen Young has a pectoral injury, according to a statement from Scotland, although it is unclear why the four players have left for home.

As replacements, three uncapped players have been flown in. Fin Richardson, a tight end for Glasgow who recently signed with the Exeter Chiefs, will be paired with scrumhalf Ben Afshar, who will also soon be a teammate, and Edinburgh lock Rob Carmichael as “development players” in the group.

Over the following two weeks, Scotland will play Uruguay and Chile after defeating Canada and the United States.

For this tour, Townsend fielded an inexperienced team against Canada, with 11 players making their debuts. Prior to the tour, he stated that players would have the chance to submit their names for consideration for selection when they host Fiji, South Africa, Portugal, and Australia later in the year.

Do we think these individuals can play for us not just now, when they get a chance, but November (Autumn Tests) and in the Six Nations? was one of our guiding considerations when choosing the team. According to the PA, he stated, “That’s the goal.”

“Players that we believe have what it takes to help us in the upcoming season.

“Perhaps I could provide an Elliot Millar-Mills example.

“Will Hurd sustained an injury on Saturday when playing for Leicester the week before we arrived at our Six Nations camp, therefore Elliott was called up on Sunday night.

“He has elevated his game since he seized the chance to come off the bench against Wales and in past contests the Six Nations.

“At this point, we see him as someone who is fiercely competing with Zander (Fagerson), who can both improve our depth at tight end and make a difference on the field.”
