David Fifita, one of the top forwards in the NRL, has made the decision to quit the Gold Coast Titans, reportedly to sign with the Sydney Roosters.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that despite his desire to join Trent Robinson’s team, he has decided to quit the Titans, with the Roosters and Penrith Panthers vying for his services.
With the agreement estimated to be worth roughly $3.3 million over the next four years, Fifita has wasted little time in rejecting the three-time premiers to move to Bondi.
It is understood that in order to secure the club’s deal, Ivan and Nathan Cleary spoke with Fifita within the previous day.
Fifita also turned down attention from the St George Illawarra Dragons, despite being one of the indisputable finest second-rowers in the game at his prime.
Fifita decided not to exercise his player option with the Gold Coast Titans on Thursday afternoon, the team confirmed.
The Panthers have offered journalist Michael Chammas a three-year contract at about $850,000 each season, while the Roosters have offered him a four-year contract worth about $800,000. Chammas made this revelation on the Footy Talk – Rugby League Podcast.
Fifita was reportedly given until Thursday night at 20:00 AEST to decide whether to accept an option with the Gold Coast Titans that would have allowed him to play for two more seasons.
After spending the last week meeting with both Trent Robinson and Ivan Cleary, rumours have it that the second-rower has expressed his desire to win a premiership to people in his inner circle.
