Forward for the Warriors Draymond Green shared some optimism following Stephen Curry’s ankle injury.
The Golden State Warriors were eager to keep up their improved play since the All-Star break going into their matchup against the Chicago Bulls on the second night of a back-to-back. They had just defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 125-90, thanks in large part to an incredible performance in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the Warriors lost a close game 125-122, and to make matters worse, Stephen Curry had to leave the game with an ankle twist late in the fourth quarter.
Curry might not want to miss any games at this time because the Warriors need to put in a strong effort to move up into the top six spots in the Western Conference. Their best player’s loss hurts their chances of making the playoffs significantly. However, considering Draymond Green’s awareness of Curry’s emotions as he manages a potentially concerning ankle injury, it doesn’t appear that Curry will miss much time, if any.
After the Warriors’ defeat by the Bulls, Green reportedly said that Stephen Curry was “highly” spirits despite his injury, according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN. Green, however, does not wish to wallow in self-pity. Instead, he is aware of what must be done in the unlikely event that Curry is forced to miss time.
“It’s unfortunate, but everyone experiences injuries. You simply have to handle it as best you can,” said Green.
As frustrating as it is to deal with injuries given the Warriors’ current situation, it’s good that Draymond Green is admitting that they are a part of the game. Not a single foot, belonging to a Bulls player or anybody else, was trodden on by Stephen Curry. After receiving a difficult pass in traffic, he took a wrong step and rolled his valuable ankle.
Curry has also been largely healthy this season; thus far, the Warriors star has only missed three games. However, he may now miss a few games, depending on how his ankle feels in the coming days.
In the event that Stephen Curry needs time off to recuperate, Chris Paul will need to step up and take on a greater offensive load, as will Klay Thompson.
