Body of man pulled from Grimethorpe area lake by emergency services

Emergency services have conducted an operation to retrieve a man’s body from a lake in the Doncaster region.
Following reports of a man’s body in the water, police and paramedics were dispatched to Manvers Lake, which is close to Wath on Dearne.

Although the tragedy occurred a month ago, details about it have just recently surfaced.

According to eyewitnesses, six police cars and two ambulances were called to the lake off Manvers Way at around 3pm on April 2.

One witness, who has asked not to be named said: “I was there as the police arrived – they closed the bridge off near the boat house.

“All of the fisherman’s equipment was left on the bank, according to the police, who did not know how long the fisherman had been in the water.

All I want is for people to know that this water is dangerous. People tend to take this perilous environment for granted.

According to a spokesman for South Yorkshire Police, the death is not being investigated further and no other information will be made public.

This tragedy at the lake is the most recent in a string of them.

After having trouble in the water while trying to swim to safety on an island in the centre of the lake, 15-year-old Phillip Law passed away in June 2010.

Additionally, in June 2005, Goldthorpe resident Adam Peterson, then eighteen, went under the sea while swimming with several pals on the previous pit site, and police divers found his body there.
