Club superstar in Grimsby Town send remainder off season.

Alex Hunt has joined York City on a season-long loan from Grimsby Town, a team in Sky Bet League Two.

The box-to-box midfield player is the Minstermen’s third signing of the month, having previously brought in Leeds United youngster Charlie Allen and Mariners defender Danny Amos to the LNER Community Stadium.

Hunt started his career with Sheffield Wednesday, the team of his birth, appearing in 17 games in all competitions after coming through the Owls’ junior system at the age of seven.

He also acquired experience in the Vanarama National League when he was there. He made eighteen appearances in the first half of Grimsby’s 2021–22 promotion-winning season while on loan from the team, winning over many fans in the process.

The 23-year-old signed a new 18-month contract with Wednesday upon his return to South Yorkshire, extending his stay with the team until the summer of 2023.

Soon after, Hunt went on loan to Oldham Athletic, where he played 13 games between January and April of 2022.

On deadline day in 2022, the midfield player permanently relocated to Lincolnshire for an undisclosed cost, after Grimsby Town’s return to the Football League.

He has played in more over 60 games at Blundell Park so far, including 15 this season, but he hasn’t appeared for the Mariners since their crushing 6-1 loss to Walsall on New Year’s Day.
