Abo Eisa, a winger for Grimsby Town, has shown himself to be a beneficial addition to the Mariners this year.
Currently ranked 21st in the league, Grimsby Town is situated barely above the relegation zone in League Two. They were unable to improve upon their previous campaign’s 11th place position.

But as the season approaches its last month, the Mariners might have found themselves solidly in the bottom two if it weren’t for Abo Eisa. The Sudan international has established himself as a vital component of the team with nine goals and four assists.

Eisa signed a one-year contract with Grimsby Town in the summer after being cut go by Bradford City; the term expires in a few months. To bind David Artell to a new contract, his representatives must move quickly.

A much-needed agreement

The Mariners run the risk of losing the winger for nothing this summer after an outstanding start to the season.

Eisa would be free to sign with another team, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he attracted interest from League Two following his strong comeback this season. Grimsby Town would suffer a serious hit should he be lost to a division rival.

It will take everything Artell and company have to cling onto him. He is young—just 28 years old—and, despite his game still needing work, he has demonstrated that he can find the back of the net at the fourth level.

Eisa began his career in non-league, making appearances for Wealdstone, Uxbridge, and St Albans City before joining Shrewsbury Town as a professional in 2018. Before joining Scunthorpe United and making his debut for Bradford City in 2021, he played on loan for Colchester United.

He has around 150 Football League outings under his belt, which is invaluable experience for a League Two team. This season, he has been a huge hit with Grimsby Town fans.

Many players on the Mariners roster have contracts that expire this summer, but convincing Eisa to commit to the team in the long run needs to be the top priority.

Artell’s team still has six games remaining to play to guarantee their spot in the division the following year. Next up, they take on Newport County at Blundell Park on Saturday afternoon, hoping to improve on their draw with the Bantams.
