Chris Millington, the manager of Halifax, expressed his “deep disappointment” over the postponement of the match against Chesterfield.

Tuesday night’s Spireites vs. Shaymen match at The Shay was postponed until the afternoon because of a flooded pitch.

Millington told the Halifax Courier, “I’m really disappointed because I was really looking forward to the game—Chesterfield is coming to town, it’s one of the big fixtures of the season.”

“Even though it has been a physically demanding week, we felt prepared and confident that we had selected a team and a strategy that could win the match.

We’re disappointed and it’s a blow that you’re ready to go after all of your preparation.

“We’re disappointed, but there is a bright side—some players get a little time to recover and rest, which gives them a little more energy.”

Given that Halifax had won three straight games and Chesterfield had lost two, as well as the unfavourable condition of the field, Millington thought there might have been a chance for them to pull off an upset.

“We felt it was a good time to play Chesterfield,” he said in an explanation. The pitch would undoubtedly be a real leveller and make it a true battle for both teams, but we’re on a great run and they’re kind of wobbling.”

Despite this setback, the evening was still positive for the Spireites, as late goals from Bromley and Barnet put Paul Cook’s team ahead by 19 points and gave them a game to spare.
On Saturday, they will play their next game at home against Rochdale.
